Dark Arps is the latest moniker of British-Canadian electronic artist and veteran producer/engineer Jon Bierman. Initially inspired by the slew of groundbreaking acts that arose from the UK's drum n' bass and trip hop scenes in the 90s, his tastes evolved to incorporate techno and nu-skool breaks. Throughout the 2000s Bierman spent eight years producing, performing, and touring with one of the UK's first truly live drum n' bass/breakbeat acts Keiretsu, rocking dance-floors all across Britain from Edinburgh to Brighton. Throughout this period Dark Arps continued to produce, remix and collaborate with an endless variety of electronic and traditional acts, giving him a diverse pool of influence from which to draw inspiration. Now in his fifteenth year as an electronic music producer, and reinvigorated by his new spiritual home of Vancouver, Dark Arps' productions are more coherent, more confident, and technically more sophisticated than ever. Dark Arps most recent track "B-52" was released on Steamtown Records to critical acclaim, including a 4/5 review from Mixmag. A new EP is forthcoming. On the live front Dark Arps has been busy in the Vancouver area; this summer has seen appearances at the Backstage Lounge with the SHAH Djs as well as festival slots at the Entheos Summer Gathering and Trancemission 14. His mixes have been featured on UK based breaks webzine Life Support Machine and used in Vancouver's legendary Bike Rave outdoor bike party series.
